When a couple is having difficulty becoming pregnant, male factors can also play an important role. For men, semen analysis is one of the basic tests used to evaluate fertility and provides important information about sperm concentration, motility, and morphology.

Fertility is a concern for both men and women. When a couple is experiencing difficulty conceiving, both partners may need to be evaluated.
Semen analysis is one of the basic examinations used to evaluate male fertility. It can provide information about several important characteristics of semen and sperm, including sperm concentration, motility, and morphology.
Even when there are no obvious symptoms, semen analysis can provide useful information about sperm quality.
A semen analysis can therefore be an important first step in evaluating the male side of fertility.

A semen analysis evaluates several characteristics of semen and sperm, including:

• Semen volume
• Sperm concentration
• Total sperm count
• Sperm motility
• Progressive motility
• Sperm morphology

These parameters provide useful information about male fertility. However, semen analysis alone cannot determine whether a couple will or will not achieve pregnancy.
If abnormalities are found, repeat semen analysis or additional evaluation may be recommended.

A semen analysis may be appropriate if you:

• Are trying to conceive and have concerns about fertility
• Have been trying to conceive without success
• Are planning to have children and would like to check your fertility
• Have previously been told that you may have a fertility problem
• Are concerned about your sperm quality
• Have a history of testicular problems or surgery that may affect sperm production
• Are undergoing or considering fertility treatment
• Would like a male fertility check-up or preconception assessment

You do not need to determine by yourself whether a semen analysis is appropriate. Our urologist can discuss your concerns and recommend an appropriate evaluation.

If you are visiting Tokyo and would like to have your fertility evaluated while you are in Japan, semen analysis may be performed during your stay.
Our clinic provides semen analysis using an automated sperm analysis system, allowing us to obtain results quickly and explain the findings during your visit.
This can be convenient for international visitors who have limited time in Tokyo and would like to complete a basic fertility evaluation during their stay.

We use an automated sperm analysis system to evaluate sperm concentration, motility, morphology, and other semen parameters.
The system provides rapid analysis and allows the results to be reviewed on a monitor during your visit.

Rapid Results

Once the semen sample is ready for analysis, the analysis itself takes approximately one minute, depending on the sample condition.
Your doctor can review the results with you and explain what they mean during your visit.

For accurate results, proper preparation and sample collection are important.
Please abstain from ejaculation for 2–4 days before the test. An abstinence period that is too short or too long may affect the results.
The sample should be collected by masturbation directly into the sterile container provided by our clinic. Please do not use a condom or collect the sample by withdrawal during intercourse.
If any portion of the sample is spilled or lost, please inform our staff.
After collection, keep the sample at room temperature and bring it to the clinic as soon as possible. Ideally, the sample should be submitted within 60 minutes after collection.

If you would like a written record of your results, an English-language semen analysis report can be provided upon request.
The report can be useful if you would like to keep your results for your personal records or share them with a fertility specialist in your home country.

Semen analysis results can vary from one examination to another. An abnormal result does not necessarily mean that you cannot have children.
Conversely, normal semen parameters do not guarantee pregnancy.
Your doctor will interpret the results together with your medical history and other relevant information.
Depending on the findings, repeat semen analysis, hormonal testing, physical examination, or other evaluation may be recommended.

The consultation fee is separate from the semen analysis fee.
The fertility consultation fee applies to visits primarily related to male fertility evaluation or semen analysis.
If you have urinary, genital, or other medical symptoms requiring separate evaluation or treatment, a different consultation fee may apply.
Additional examinations, such as ultrasound or blood tests, may incur additional fees when medically indicated.

An English-speaking doctor is available every Wednesday from 10:00 AM for patients who prefer more detailed communication in English.
English-supported consultations and examinations, including semen analysis, are also available on other days with the assistance of translation devices.
